I am incredibly excited about what JDRF is doing and what we have accomplished towards improving the lives of type 1 diabetics. I am committed to being a part of the solution and fundraising to find the cure so that no one has to bear this burden at 2 months or 20 years of age.

Eight years ago, in December 2002, my brother lost his battle with Type1. He passed away suddenly at age 36. As is the case when you lose a loved one, it was a terrible blow to me and our family. In the months to follow, I realized I would have to change my own life if I expected to extend it further into the future. That's when I began cycling in an attempt to improve my overall health. I became involved in charity events that year and have been involved every year since. I’ve done the Assault on Mt. Mitchell 3 times - 2005, 2006 and 2008. I did my first JDRF ride in 2007 in Death Valley, CA and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I did my first Triathlon last year in 2009! I’m looking forward to the 2010 Lake Tahoe Ride with great anticipation and know it will be another experience to cherish!

Chances are we all know someone that has diabetes...it is something that strikes for no reason and without mercy. I am dedicating my efforts to my good friend, Scott Mann who is in the picture with me, who has what is norammly refered to type I as "juvenile" diabetes because it manifests earlier in life. It is a devastating disease that affects millions of people a large and growing percentage of them children.

I do have a personal interest in this ride because my daughter, Michelle (in the picture), was diagnosed 5 years ago. Diabetes is a very dangerous disease for anyone of any age, so I ask you now to help me help the children of the future that must face a lifetime of difficult decisions.
